USA Overview

America’s East Coast is a place of huge contrasts. New England in the north provides not just great beaches and stunning scenery, but also some of the most picturesque towns you’ll find anywhere. Head south though, and Florida might as well be another country, with its endless sunshine, palm-fringed beaches, and of course the Everglades.

We bring you the best of both worlds, with a choice of great locations at key points in both these stunning areas. And for those who are feeling particularly adventurous, we also now offer the chance to hire a motor home, or RV as our American cousins call them, from 15 locations across the entire country. When you want to get closer to the real America, no-one makes it easier.

New England: The states that make up New England have a quaint style all of their own. Whether you head north into the lush hills and forests of Maine, or south to Cape Cod to enjoy fine seafood, great beaches and the charm of Provincetown at its very tip. Boston is also a tremendously attractive city where you can follow the Freedom Trail marked on the sidewalks to visit all of the key places that led to the American Declaration of Independence. While you are in New England, whale watching is another popular and rewarding trip, and taking a ferry out to Martha’s Vineyard is also highly recommended.

Florida: The Sunshine State offers so much to do for visitors, ranging from the peace and quiet of a trip through the Everglades to the glamour of the palm-fringed beaches of the Gulf Coast and the Florida Keys. Yet many people come here just as much for the concentration of exciting attractions. The Kennedy Space Centre is always an exciting place to go, while the Universal Studios Tour and Disney World are unmissable attractions for all ages.

Places to visit - Eating out

New England

As you might expect, the cuisine of New England is dominated by the sea, and there are some simple, signature dishes that you simply have to try here:

  • Clam Chowder – a rich and creamy soup full of the local clams, often served with salty crackers.
  • Lobster Rolls – More of a staple than a luxury food, you will find lobster served in rolls all along the eastern seaboard. You may even sight McLobster Rolls on Cape Cod.

Florida

With its strong Caribbean and Latin American influences, the cuisine of Florida is far from being typical of the USA, especially with local specialities like these to enjoy:

  • Key West Conch Fritters – the meat at the heart of these giant pink shells, served deep-dried in a salt and pepper batter.
  • Key Lime Pie – Made from the small yellow limes that grow in such an abundance here, together with eggs and condensed milk, this is very much the signature dessert of Florida.
