As well as cuckoo clocks, this region produces excellent wine. There is a very popular wine route close to the parc known as The Baden Wine Road or Badische Weinstrasse which is well worth discovering.
Picturesque Freiburg is close by and is a great place to shop and eat, as well as sightsee. It is interesting to see the Augustiner Museum displaying lots of art and sculptures, the Colombischlössle archaeological museum and the Freiburg Münster cathedral.
Steinwasen Park is popular with families. There are wild animals to see and tame creatures in the petting zoo, as well as activities including an 800 metre toboggan route and a flight simulator.
Family fun at Europa Park is just over 10km away at Rust and offers something for all ages, from roller coasters to landscaped gardens. It is a huge theme park with over 100 attractions and lots of shows based on various countries around the world.
To enjoy an authentic Black Forest experience, head east, into the heart of the forest, and you’ll reach the nearby villages of Schönwald im Schwarzwald and Schonach, where you’ll find the world’s largest cuckoo clock.
You can see the city from a different perspective by taking a ride on Germany’s longest cable car ride at Bergwelt Schaunisland. Make sure you take warm clothing, it’s cold all the way up there!
