Doué-la-Fontaine is a lovely town with lots to offer. There is a zoo which is unique due to it being partially in caves, and there are other troglodyte features, including where the mushrooms are grown. It is the number one producer of roses in Europe so be sure to stroll through the beautiful rose gardens.
Fine wine, cliffside retreats and hidden caves make historic Saumur a great destination.
Futuroscope, the fantastic, award-winning theme park of the moving image is a bit of a drive away, but well worth a visit for keeping the teenagers entertained. There's rides, shows and plenty of attractions – you won’t want to leave.
Château de Saumur also has a magical feel to it - it is rumoured to be the inspiration for Walt Disney’s fairytale castle.
Create your own fairytale, or at least visit the site that inspired the fairytale of Sleeping Beauty – Château d’Ussé. The story is retold as you wander round the château, then you must explore the Gardens of Ussé, which are among the most beautiful in the Loire Valley.
