Castagneto Caducco is a medieval hilltop town with lots of historical sites in the local area. Being up on the hilltop means you can see for miles, especially from Piazzale Belvedere.
There are over 600 animals from around the globe including flamingos, llamas, camels, tigers, elephants, hippos and bears housed here. There is also an area where children can touch the animals such as goats and rabbits.
About an hour and a half’s drive away you will find Pinocchio Park. The park is set in Collodi, the childhood home of the story’s author. Stroll along the paths and experience a living story amid unspoilt pearls of nature, blended with beautiful art.
Castagneto is a great place to simply take a stroll and enjoy a delicious gelato. Or if you would rather a glass of vino then you are well placed to enjoy the Etruscan wine trail.
The archaeological park of Baratti and Populonia is close by, as is the town of Bibbona which has lots of archaeological and historical sites.
