This area is certainly more for the culture vulture than the thrill seekers. There are hundreds of museums to explore and castles to discover. Close to the parc in Cetona is the museum of prehistory and the archaeological park which documents the colonisation of the area; there are some artefacts that are over a million years old! Also nearby and is Montalcino castle which is well worth a visit, if not only for the view.

The stunning hilltop town of Sarteano is within a short stroll of all the parc - here you should visit the ruins of the 11th century castle. The town’s central location puts many of Italy’s most historic close to hand, with Rome just two hours away by train. But the local towns are just as enjoyable, especially Cortona and Assisi.
If the family are ‘Twilight’ fans then you can see where some of the movie was filmed at Montepulciano.
Siena is a great trip out for sightseeing. It has amazing medieval architecture and boasts one of the loveliest of all Italian squares, Piazza del Campo.
