Ile d’Yeu is a paradise for walkers and cyclists. There is so much to do: hire bikes, visit great restaurants, explore the wild areas of the island, relax on the beach and marvel at the breathtaking scenery. Whilst you are there you must visit the Vieux Château. The striking landmark is situated along the cliff top of the wild coast where you can feel the wind in your hair and take in stunning panoramic views.
A short drive away is St Gilles Croix De Vie - a busy port with a lively town and beautiful beaches, and a great destination for a daytrip. It’s a very relaxed and friendly place and the esplanade is traffic free so you can relax with the children. There are lots of great places to eat and there are markets on most days of the week.
If the outdoors is your thing, then visit Feeling Forest - an aerial assault course with 6 routes to explore. The site also offers air games, mini golf and trampolines. It is suitable for those over the age of 6 and some height restrictions apply.
A slightly more active way to see the picturesque Vendéen countryside is to take a canoe down the areas old salt routes. You can rent canoes at Sellertaine to explore ‘La Route du Sel’ and travel along the labyrinth of ancient marshlands. Pack a picnic, hire a pedalo and take a dip!
Château d’Apremont offers panoramic views from its towers and there's a fresh water lake if you want to float on your back for a relaxing way to take in the countryside.
