Southern France

Head south for waves, wine and fragrant pines

If you like your outdoors great, don’t miss Ardèche and Auvergne. There are mountains, rivers, gorges, caves – even volcanoes – and they’re all pretty spectacular. Hop in a canoe and navigate the network of rivers or drive out to a limestone gorge for a day trip.

The waterworks continue in the West, with Gironde’s endless coastal resorts that are packed with sand dunes, beaches and chances to hit the surf. Further south you’ll find Gascony and a slower pace of life, fuelled by Bordeaux’s famous grapes. Make your way to the stunning Pyrénées to fill your lungs with clean, fresh air and breathe in the fragrant pine forests.  Follow one of their trails or paths, which are ideal for hiking and cycling; perhaps you’ll stumble upon a mountain village complete with a world-class spa!
