Biarritz nice but past it's sell by date - needs some money spent on it. Bayonne very scenic. San Sebastian worth the trip only 50 mins away by car. If you have kids, make sure that they are fed and watered if you are going out in the afternoon as it is impossible to get a restaurant meal before 6.00pm.

Perfect weather for the breach with children, not too hot but warm enough to spend hours in the sea. Lovely sandy beaches and full of the French on holiday rather than brits!

We traveled as far as Royan from La Palmyre for a day out and from what we saw it was a lovely area. Plenty to do for 8 days with kids! The cycle paths are excellent and there are a lot of outdoor activities including the zoo. The French obviously love the region too because it was pretty busy even in early July.

Been to the Vendee on many occasions now. Love the beaches and the area. Lots to explore and history to absorb. The ile doleron and ile d re are just fantastic for cycling with a young family, flat and routes are plenty.
