Having frequently visited the French Alps we were keen to explore the Pyrenees. We found them much more rugged and not as pretty as the Alps and perhaps less commercial. For cycling you need to be very fit but if you are then there are endless routes for you to explore. Its worth visiting but be prepared for changeable weather
Great site for walking and getting to know the Pyrenees - excellent hiking territory and great wildlife. Can recommend the walk to and beyond the Lac de Gaube (we even walked up to the Spanish border) and the Cirque at Gavarnie.
set in a valley with wonderful views of the mountains, waking up to see the paragliders jumping off. the town good supermarket, restaurants and our highlight the col du tormelet and pic di midi observatory.
