Towns & Villages Holland

Amsterdam

Amsterdam

Amsterdam retains much of the traditional character from when it was a city of wealthy merchants. But limos are scarce and bicycles are the favoured way of getting around now. Tall, narrow brick houses look over a picturesque network of canals lined by trees. Waterbus and canal bikes are a fun way of seeing the sights.

Belgium

Belgium

While you are camping in Holland, it is worth noting that the delights of Belgium, including the wonderfully beautiful city of Bruges, are just a short drive away.

Delft

Delft

Endlessly charming and picturesque, the town is home to Royal Delft pottery, where you can learn the secrets of the famous Delft Blue earthenware. The lifelong home of Johannes Vermeer, painter of the famed ‘Girl With A Pearl Earring’, vamoose to the Vermeer Centre Exhibition to find out more.

Edam

Edam

Giving its name to Edam cheese, this is one charming town, interspersed with canals. Visit a cheese-making exhibition at the old Kaasmarkt (yes, really), or take to the local cheese farms to sample cheese-making in action, and test the results!

Leiden

Leiden

Perhaps best known for being the birthplace of Rembrandt, this old university town has several excellent museums, as well as a towering brick church. Amazingly, windmills still reach above the city’s skyline.

Rotterdam

Rotterdam

It may be Europe’s largest port, but it should also be your port of call for contemporary art, fashion and design. The Kunsthal and Boijmans van Beuningen museums are unmissable, and you really won’t be able to miss the Bijenkorf shopping centre.

Wassenaar

Wassenaar

The location of our Duinrell parc, Wassenaar is an historic town with a 12th Century church. Some remains of the ‘Atlantic Wall’ still exist on Wassenaar’s beach. If you like a bat, a network of underground tunnels serves as a bat sanctuary. If you like a bet, the town is home to the Duindigt horseracing track. Duinrell theme park is nearby.

Eindhoven

Eindhoven

Though a beautiful and historic city, Eindhoven has a lively and bustling atmosphere. There’s great shopping and a wealth of bars and restaurants. Take in the Van Abbe Museum of contemporary art.
