Tuscany is a beautiful part of Italy. Be warned, it is hilly and the camp therefore has gradients to negotiate when walking from one part of it to another! It's a beatiful part of the world; very green and fertile with lots of interesting places to visit.
Rome is a city of contradictions - the wonderful Colosseum, the fascinating Pantheon, etc. alongside the disgusting streets, rubbish everywhere, and crumbling buildings. We also hit Rome at a time when the scaffolding businesses were making a lot of money - the Trevi Fountain was closed, the Spanish steps closed, the Colosseum too had scaffolding around a section of it. What kind of tourist mecca does it's maintenance in summer when the tourists are here? Rome doesn't stick in our minds as a fabulous place to visit.
