The weather is the main problem, it is mixed even in July. Not a great deal to do without going far afield. Isla is worth a visit, a lovely beach with bars overlooking the sea and a great place for a swim.

Close enough to Santander and Bilbao for excursions. there are many small towns and villages on the coast to visit. The weather was mixed, rain and sun.

Noja is a busy working town with several adjacent beaches and a good supermarket. There are several interesting places within easy distance by car. The nearby town of Santana has a good shopping and restaurant area, something a little lacking in Noja. It also has an extensive Saturday market. All along the coast are interesting fishing and country villages and, of course, there is the large town of Santander. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty with a Nature reserve alongside the camp site. There is more to this area than we can describe here.

Although the drive from Bilbao was very scenic this area disappointed for day trips from the camp site. Many of the towns are modern , predominantly blocks of flats and it proved extremely difficult to find a place to park. Although very easy to find a beautiful beach this area lacks pretty towns and villages, which, as it rains a lot the beach option is not always viable. The one exception was the small historic town of Santillana del Mar which although a long drive was a pleasant excursion. Many of the sites we wanted to visit would have entailed a four to six hour return journey.
