Very green, as the name suggests. Weather can be variable - it was hot throughout our time but some rain during the night and a few overcast days. Handy for crossings to Santander if you don't want to be driving far. Some good day trips within easy reach - Bilbao and Santander are great to explore and the old town of Laredo was a hidden gem. The area to the east of Noja is fairly industrial - some evidence of mining on the way to Bilbao - but balanced by areas of nature reserve.

After the beach, which was excellent, there is only a very limited number of off site things that we found. We ended up driving to the Picos de Europas even with the 2 1/2 hours each way it was worth it. The Zoo at Parque de la Naturaleza de Cabarceno near Santander was very good.

This is a beautiful part of Spain . I guess the weather is less reliable than the south but also the heat was not so relentless which was great.
