Vendee - Eating Out
Eating Out
As for dining in the Vendee, Frogs' legs, that famous French delicacy, are very much available on the menu, although today the vast majority are imported. The most unusual regional speciality is the 'tourteau fromager', a round savoury cake made with goat's cheese. Baked in a very hot oven, it has a black crust and a deliciously light, creamy texture. Thick slices of 'Jambon de Vendée' make a good alternative to bacon for breakfast. Vendée's own wine, 'Brem', is little known, but is a very pleasant dry white wine and the 'Mareuil' is also worth tasting.
