About Eurocamp
From humble beginnings to Europe's leading brand
Eurocamp is part of Holidaybreak plc, an education, leisure and activity travel group. Holidaybreak plc was founded in 1973 as Eurocamp travel Limited - a family run business, based in Knutsford, Cheshire, offering camping holidays in Brittany.
From modest beginnings the business grew steadily benefiting from the growing interest in France as a holiday destination. In the early eighties mobile homes and destinations outside France were added to the product range
Ownership of the business changed in 1981, with the founder Alan Goulding selling to the London based retail group Combined English Stores plc. Alan Goulding finally left the company in 1983 when former Chief Executive, Richard Atkinson, became Managing Director.
The eighties were years of innovation and growth as the UK market to France expanded rapidly and Eurocamp took over leadership of the camping sector.
There were also a series of milestones in the development of the business and a number of small competitors were absorbed into the business as the market consolidated, until the company finally floated in 1991. Since floatation, the business has continued to expand through acquisitions within the holiday sector as well as organic growth.
The late 90's saw other important changes. In 1998 after 25 years in Knutsford the Camping and Group head offices were relocated to Hartford, near Northwich, Cheshire. We also decided to change the holding company from Eurocamp plc to Holidaybreak plc to better reflect the aspirations and range of activities of the Group.
Holidaybreak's strategy is to grow its portfolio of brands organically and by acquisition.
