Rome Guide - Events
During Holy Week (Easter) Catholics from around the world make pilgrimages to Rome's various basilicas and to hear the Pope give his address at the Vatican. On Good Friday there's a procession of the Cross from the Colosseum to Capitoline Hill.
Rome's public holidays include Liberation Day (25 April), Labour Day (1 May), the Feast of the Assumption (15 August), All Saints' Day (1 November), the Feast of the Immaculate Conception (8 December) and the Feast of Santo Stefano (26 December).
Rome Marathon (16th March tbc)
The annual run makes the city come alive with concerts and stalls along the route of the marathon.
Good Friday Procession (April tbc)
On Good Friday the Pope leads a solemn torchlit procession, from the Colosseum and up the Monte Palatino, reenacting the 14 Stations of the Cross, from Jesus' death sentence to the placement of his body in the tomb.
Villa dei Medici Gardens (Sept -June weekends only)
Taking up 17 sprawling acres on Pincio Hill above the Piazza di Spagna, the Villa dei ,Medici Gardens offer a stunning panoramic view of the city as well as a welcome break from its chaos.
Fandango Jazz Festival (1June -31June)
The annual Fandabgo Jazz Festival takes place in Rome's Palma Club and features 68 concerts by leading jazz artsists throughout June and July.
Festa de'Noantri (July)
Every year, on the Saturday following the Festa del Carmelo, a statue of the Vergine del Carmine is taken out from its resting place in the church of Sant'Agata in Rome and is paraded through the streets of Trastevere quarter and taken to San Crisogno, where it remains for eight days.
