Venice Guide - Eating Out
Most restaurants in Venice serve traditional Italian food including regional specialities, although there are also many restaurants serving international cuisine.
Venetian specialities rely on fresh seasonal produce so dishes will vary with the seasons but are generally meat, pasta, cheese and a large amount of seafood. Be careful when choosing a restaurant in Venice as it can be very expensive. Types of restaurants also vary with a ristorante being smarter and more expensive than a trattoria or an Osteria.
There are plenty of restaurants around the Piazza, Dorsoduro, San Polo and Cannaregio areas and you can find good cafes around Campo Santa Margherita and other nearby areas.
Restaurant opening times are mostly the same throughout Venice, opening from 12noon till 2.30pm for lunch and from 7.30pm till 10.30pm for dinner. Also by law they must close at least one day a week.
