Croatia Regional Travel Guide

Very much a land of contrasts, our three resorts in Croatia offer you a choice between the beautiful area around Porec on the Istrian Peninsula, and the lovely island of Losinj. Istrian is often referred to as 'the Croatian Tuscany'; with its architecture and cuisine betraying the Italian influences that remain from 400 years of Venetian rule. The archipelago of Cres - Losinj is composed of 36 islands, islets and reefs, all with an abundance of amazing flora and fauna and a charm of times gone by.

Shopping in Croatia tends to be more expensive than it is in Britain, but the quality of goods tends to be excellent. Certainly you should be prepared to spend more on food whilst in Croatia. There are many department stores for general shopping and supermarkets for food shopping in Croatia, with boutiques, jewellery shops and souvenir shops in the centre of all major cities. Markets are very popular, selling fresh fruit and vegetables and traditional handicrafts at very reasonable prices. Souvenirs Traditional handicrafts like embroidery, woodcarvings and ceramics make good souvenirs and can be found in shops and local markets throughout Croatia. Shops are usually open 9.00 a.m. until 7.30 p.m. Monday to Friday and 8.00 a.m. until 2.00 p.m. on Saturdays. Some department stores open on Sundays from 8 a.m. until 2.00 pm in July and August. You should find driving in Croatia a pleasurable experience on the whole thanks to newly constructed roads and less traffic than in the U.K. Driving in Croatia is on the right as in other European countries. You will need your car registration document and M.O.T. certificate, as well as your driving licence.

The currency in Croatia is the Kuna. 1KN is equivalent to 100 Lipa. Notes are in denominations of KB1000, 500,200,100, 50,20,10 and 5.
