Normandy Regional Travel Guide

Fabulous sandy beaches, unspoilt countryside, historical cities and fine food and wine are just some of the attraction that France can offer.

With such a vast country as France and such varying regions it is sometimes hard to decide where to visit. So to help you choose that ideal holiday destination we have put together some of the culture you will be able to experience in some of the larger regions Eurocamp has holiday parcs in.

Normandy is a region with over four hundred miles of shoreline, the sea and coastal areas of Normandy form a large part of its history and appeal and so naturally there are many original features and museums.

Normandy offers a richness and variety of landscape that is perhaps unrivalled in France. From the wild craggy, granite coastline to the long sandy beaches and chalk cliffs of the south, from the ancient beech forests of the east to the apple orchards of calvados, Normandy offers a wealth of quiet village and unspoilt countryside. Normandy is also celebrated for its cuisine - fresh fish, cream and cheese figure prominently on the menus of many good restaurants. There are elegant resorts and quaint fishing villages along Normandy's coast, many of which have lovely sandy beaches.

While you are staying with Eurocamp you could visit the famous D-Day landing beaches and the historic town of Bayeux, home to the famous tapestry. Caen is the gateway to the Calvados region, well known for its oysters. Two miles away is the resort of Luc-sur-Mer, where you can still see the huge skeleton of a whale  which beached there ninety years ago.

The lovely sandy beach at Fermanville is worth visiting. Nearby you can visit calvados and cider museums at Valognes where you can taste liqueurs and apple brandy or the fishing port at Barfleur. Take a trip into Cherbourg where you will find La Cité de la Mer, the largest aquarium in Europe. Bayeux, famous for its tapestry, is also within reach. Normandy has a wealth of excellent attractions to offer from theme parks to museums and historic chateaux's.
