- • What other essentials do I need to drive in Europe?
It is essential that you have a spare set of light bulbs and fuses for your car as in some countries, it is illegal not to have these items. Other requirements are a warning triangle, flash light and a first aid box. It is now required in Spain and Italy for all drivers to carry reflective jackets in their cars at all times.
- • What documents do I need for my car?
It is important that you inform your car insurance company that you are taking your car abroad. They will issue you with a Green Card. Some insurance companies may charge a small fee for this. This card must be taken with you, along with evidence of car insurance, your driving licence, original vehicle registration document or log book. If the car is not registered in your name (e.g. if it is a company car), you may be required to produce a letter from the owner, authorising use of the vehicle. You will also be required to display a GB or IRL sticker on your car (supplied by Eurocamp).
- • Do you have the new European Health Insurance Card to replace the E111?
You are advised to obtain a new European Health Insurance Card which replaces the E111 from January 2006 (E111 no longer valid). This is not a substitute for medical insurance and forms are available from your Post Office. The Foreign & Commonwealth Travel Advice Unit may have issued information about your destination. Visit www.fco.gov.uk.
