Adriatic Coast
Venice is an attractive region that is characterised by lagoons formed by rivers surging down to the sea from the Alps. The main focus of interest is Venice, 'Pearl of the Adriatic.' To the south and west there are many historic centres such as Ravenna, with its fine mosaics and to the east are lively resorts and wide sandy beaches. Croatia's Istrian coast combines tiny inlets and pine fringed shores backed by rolling hills.
