Tuscany
The classic landscapes of Tuscany and Umbria, familiar from innumerable paintings, have long made this region of Italy irresistible. The countryside of rolling vineyards and cypress trees, strewn with unspoilt medieval hill towns and remote monasteries, competes with the artistic riches of the famous cities. With seductive countryside and memorable sights this region is archetypally Italian.
Lazio
Lazio is characterized by volcanic lakes, mountains, vineyards, and olive orchards. Rome dominates the region, separating the forested hills of the north from the southern area with its famous beach localities, including Gaeta and Sabaudia, located near the National Park of the Circeo. Besides splendid archaeological sites like Cerveteri and Tarquinia, Lazio offers the opportunity to practice aquatic sports, both in the sea and in the lakes of Bolsena, Albano and Bracciano. Among the thermal towns, Fiuggi is famous.
Elba
Mountainous Elba is the third largest Italian Island and has exceptionally clear water, fine white sand beaches and a lush wooded interior, superb for walking. Portoferraio is very much the capital, a characterful port town overlooked by a warren of old alleys. Elsewhere, Capoliveri and Porto Azzurro in the southeast and little Marciana in the west are definitely worth exploring.
