With a superb pool complex on parc and the Atlantic breakers and beaches nearby, Le Vieux Port is a popular choice with families.

An ideal place for a sun and sand holiday, with loads of activities. Situated right on the Atlantic coast, and awarded the prestigious La Clef Verte award, Le Vieux Port enjoys direct access to a long, sandy beach, backed by sand dunes, which shelves steeply into the lively waves. There’s also a splendid adventure playground, tennis, table tennis, and all sorts of games and sports events during the busy summer months, when the atmosphere is extremely lively. You’ll find that the parc’s own grill restaurant makes the ideal place to eat too, when you’re not at the weekly barbecue, or occasional disco held in high season. Delightful Bordeaux and bustling Bayonne are also both within easy reach by car.

Local Events

The spectacular Tour d'ile de Re Yacht Festival is held on 7th May; the Bordeaux Fete de Vin, a celebration of the region's most famous export runs from 1st to 4th July; Francofolies celebrates French music ans song at La Rochelle between 12th and 17th July, and the weekly Summer Music Festival is held at Pauillac from 22nd July to 26th August.

Out and about

The coastal resort of Labenne is a short drive away, popular with watersports and nature enthusiasts alike, with its vast forest and nature reserve. Historical Bayonne is slightly further away where there are several guided tours you can choose from and is also perfect for browsing the shops, with many restaurants to choose from. Closer to parc is the Atlantic water park at Seignosse, perfect for a family day out.

La Pinede des Singes is an area in the Landais pine forests set aside for monkeys to live freely. Walk through the forest to observe the monkeys

Ecomusée de la Pêche Aquarium

Small museum of the sea and fish with a few fish from the region. Displays of fossils, shells and minerals. Information displayed on the related jobs and the sea.

Atlantic Park - Seignosse

Waterpark with a good selection of pools and slides and a childrens pool. Area for beach volley, boules, basketball and badminton. Picnic area and bar/restaurant.

Adrenaline Parc

Adventure Park - there is a course with tree trails - 40 obstacles from 3 - 10 metres above ground level including 'Tarzan's jump' the 'Monkey Walk' etc. Minimum height including raised arms: 1.80 m (recommended: trainers as footwear). Paint-ball games are also possible from the age of 14 yrs old (goggles are provided). Quad bikes, motorbikes, mountain bikes, mini-quad bikes/motorbikes (for 6 yr olds upwards) can be hired too.

Local Directions

From Bordeaux: Follow the motorway around the east side of the city and take the A63 in the direction of ‘Arcachon/Bayonne/San Sebastian’. Follow the A63/N10 as far as the ‘Magescq/Soustens/Vieux Boucau’ exit (junction 11). In the village of Magescq straight over at the traffic lights onto the D16 signposted to ‘Azur’ and ‘Messanges’. About 0.5 mile from here turn left onto the D150 still following signs for ‘Azur’ and ‘Messanges’. You will see a sign for Camping Vieux Port here. Follow this road for about 4.5miles. Turn right at the T-junction and into the village of Azur (the campsite is sign-posted from here). Follow the road through the village, going straight over the two mini-roundabouts and passing a church on your left. Follow the signs to ‘Camping Le Vieux Port’. After a further 4.5 miles (before Messanges) turn left and follow this windy road for about 1 mile. You will drive past Camping Lou Pignade before reaching a T-junction. Turn left at the T-junction. At the roundabout (opposite a Super U supermarket) take the first right exit and the entrance to Camping Le Vieux Port is approx 500 yards along this road.
