Close enough to Spain you can almost smell the chorizo, Ciboure enjoys that rare privilege of enjoying two cultures for the price of one. Actually, make that three - for you’re deep in Basque country here, a region with a vibrant cuisine, and culture, all its own.
For those who like to take the air, or even take to the waters, in relative peace and tranquillity, Ciboure offers all the exhilaration, without too much of the adrenalin. Sheltered in the calmer waters of the St Jean de Luz bay, the watersports and activities here are a degree or two more chilled out than at the larger, high-octane resorts to the north. On land, too, the accent is on quiet enjoyment, rather than thrills and spills. Ciboure is calm compared to its busy fishing port neighbour of Saint Jean-de-Luz, but there is still plenty to keep you busy - such as hiking in the foothills of the Pyrenees.
