Attractions

The resort: Gassin (6 km away), an old village perched on a promontory (elevation 201 m) above Saint Tropez, has preserved its Provençal character, and has narrow, winding streets, sometimes connected to each other by stairways. Stone houses are crowded up around the church and old mediaeval fortress. Vestiges of the ramparts can be seen in some streets. The view from the Place des Barris extends over the Gulf of Saint Tropez, Cavalaire Bay and the Hyères Islands. The surrounding area: The Massif des Maures reaching from Hyères (43 km) to Saint Raphaël (43 km): the coast, with its numerous resorts, offers viewpoints and attractive sites all along the magnificent tourist route called the 'Corniche des Maures' (from Hyères to La Croix Valmer). Inland, the countryside has many shady valleys and wild ravines. Saint Tropez peninsula: landscape with a mixture of vineyards, lines of cypress trees and dramatic umbrella pines. The coast here is protected by the Conservatoire du Littoral and offers a variety of landscapes ranging from the rocky cliffs of Capes Camarat, Taillat and Lardier to the find sand beach of Pampelonne Cove. Worth seeing: Ramatuelle (5 km), a picturesque hillside village with breathtaking views, the lakeside pile dwellings of Port Grimaud (7 km), St Tropez (8 km), Cogolin (10km), Ste Maxime (14 km).

From Paris: A6 motorway to Lyon, then A7 direction Marseille, continue on the A8 direction Fréjus, Nice. Exit Le Muy, then D25 to Sainte-Maxime. Follow direction Saint-Tropez for 10 km. Then bypass the intersection at La Foux (Géant La Foux shopping centre) direction Saint-Tropez - 500 m after Les Marines de Gassin on the left.
