Local Events

The Noctibules Festival of performing arts takes place in July at Annecy in the town's streets and squares; a summer event of dance, music and theatre, the Nuits de Fourviere, take place in the Roman amphitheatre on the hill above Lyon on 14th June to 6th August.

Out and about

The small and traditional alpine village of Allemont is a short drive away and is good for walking and cycling. There is also a museum dedicated to the ibex. A little further out in Voiron is the Chartreuse Distillery, the longest liqueur cellar in the world (164m), and the distillery of the Chartreuse Monks. There are also a large number of canoeing, kayaking, fishing, waterskiing, windsurfing and quad biking opportunities in the Annecy area.

La Mine Image

Discover two centuries of mining through a visit of 200 metres in length. The harsh life of the men working underground is presented by the testimony of former miners. Guided tours are available and a video recalling the geological formation of anthracite and exploration of the mines is shown.

Chemin de fer de la Mure

The line is an old Transport line that brought coal from the Matheysin Plate towards Grenoble. It was inaugurated in July 1888. Now with wonderful views for tourists to enjoy its full splendour. There is also the opportunity to visit the line inside the mine itself.

Musée d'Huez et de l'Oisans

The Museum d'Huez and l'Oisans located at the heart of the station of Alpe d'Huez offers animations - a good number of these activities are adapted perfectly to children particular the following disciplines - history, geography, science and local life of the region. The museum focuses on the archaeological, ethnological, industrial mining of l'Oisans.

Chartreuse distillery

Located in Voiron, in the heart of the French Alps, between the Chartreuse and Vercors mountain range. Guided tours of the world’s largest liqueur ageing cellar - 164 metres long - are free and include complimentary liqueur tasting.

Closed daily 11:30 - 14:00 during which time 2 of the monks from the monastery drive to Voiron to inspect the 'brew'

From Grenoble, France: Follow signs for Romans, Valence on the N532. At the junction for the A480 branch right then keep to the left (sign posted Sisteron, Gap) joining the toll-free motorway A480-E711. Leave motorway at junction 8 (Gap, Briancon). At the roundabout bear right N85 Keep forward on the N91 (sign posted Briancon). Turn left D526 (sign posteed Allemont). Camping le Belledonne is on your right. From Briancon, France: Follow signs for Grenoble N91 through Chantemerle, Le Monetier-les-Bains. Shortly ascend 2058 meters to Le Bourgd’Oisans. Bear right Rochetaillee. Turn right on to the D526 (sign posted Allemont). Camping le Belledone is on your right.
