Local Events

The area offers a number of festivals, including the Festival Latino Americano in Milan, featuring Latin American music, drama and crafts from 15th June to 15th August at the Fila Forum, the huge Naviglio Grande Antiqurs Fair in Milan on 30th April and last Sunday every month (not July/Aug), and famous Verona Opera Festival between 17th June and 31st August in the unique Roman amphitheatre.

Out and about

The historical village of Cannobio is a short distance from the parc, and is the location from which the famous painting of the Virgin Mary was said to have bled from the canvas. It's also good for walkers and cyclists to explore. For a family day out there's Zoo-Safari del Lago Maggiore, about 70km from the parc. And if you wish to venture into Switzerland, there is a lovely town about 17km away, Ascona, where you can explore its old town, choose from a variety of restaurants and visit botanical gardens.

Zoo-Safari del lago Magiore

A good Zoo/Safari with many species of animals on view. Take the opportunity to feed the animals at selected times. Small rides and attractions throughout the park.

Parco della villa Pallavicino

Magnificent landscaped park with well maintained gardens that feature botanical trails and a rose garden. There is a Zoo with a good range of animals.

Stockalper Castle

Situated at the foot of the Simplon Pass, the Stockalper Castle is one of the most important buildings in Switzerland. Built between 1658 and 1678, it has a huge inner courtyard with three towers named after the three biblical kings.

Local Directions

From Verbania: Follow lakeside road SS34 direction ‘Locarno CH’ until you reach Cannobio. As you enter the village, turn left immediately after the Fina petrol station following signs for ‘Malesco’, ‘Traffiume’ and Camping Valle Romantica. Continue for 2 km until you reach a fork in the road. Take the left-hand fork and the entrance to Camping Valle Romantica is 50 m further on the right.
