Out and about

Take a trip into the historical town of Bolsena, capital of the lake itself and pay a visit to Museo Territoriale del Lago di Bolsena atop the hill at Rocca Monaldeschi della Cervara castle, where once you've had your history lesson you can marvel at the outstanding lake views. Further afield is the artistic city of Perugia, with many impressive buildings of archeological interest, including the Basilica of San Domenico.

Attractions

Giardino dei Tarrochi

This is a sculpture garden based on the symbols of the Tarot cards. Many can be explored on the inside. It is a wonderful place to introduce children to art and for adults to relax

Museo Archeologico Nazionale Chiusi (Siena)

The museum was founded in 1871 and is now packed with archeological delights including cremation urns, vases and Bucchero ware.

Aquapiper Waterpark

Biggest Waterpark in central Italy. Excellent variety of pools and slides.

Parco di Bomarzo (Monster Park)

This is a large rather strange garden in which mysterious forms in the shape of ogres, dragons, bears and mermaids have been sculpted from the rocks. Children can climb all over the statues and explore the strange house that leans and tilts

Local Directions

From the A1 motorway (Rome - Florence), take the Orvieto exit (about 100km north of Rome). After the tollbooths turn right, following signs towards Lago di Bolsena onto the S71. Keep following these signs up over the ridge for about 24 kms. Having descended through Bolsena town and across the cobbled square, take a left turn at the lights onto the S2 following the lake in a clockwise direction. Camping Lido Village is approx. 3 kms along on the right hand side.
