North of Lisbon, Peniche used to be an island. A quaint fishing port, the town is now connected to the mainland, after the narrow straits silted up. The nearby medieval town of Óbidos, a World Heritage Site, is one of the most beautiful along the Atlantic coast. Praia del Rey resort has a selection of high quality terracotta-roofed townhouses and villas with pools and sports facilities - enough to keep everyone happy. Sample mouth-watering local cuisine, in particular the seafood, accompanied of course by the region's excellent local wine.

This resort is located less than an hour's drive from the wonderful capital city, Lisbon. Known for its varying styles of architecture, welcoming and exciting atmosphere, gorgeous beaches, fantastic shopping and eateries, you'd be missing out if you didn't make the time for at least a day trip. Closer to resort, the unspoilt beauty of Óbidos is worth a visit, and closer still is the lovely seaside resort of Peniche, with its harbour, seafood restaurants and surf.

Local Directions

Directions: From Lisbon Airport (100km), As you leave the airport you will come to a large roundabout. Take the first right off this roundabout. (Signed 2a Circular). This will bring you up onto an urban motorway. Within 1.50 kms you will pick up the blue motorway signs indicating the A8 to Loures/Leiria. *Keep on this motorway for approximately 73 kms. Leave the A8 at Exit 14 for the IP6 signed Peniche. Then leave the IP6 at the first exit signed Serra D’El Rei. At the roundabout take the first left towards Serra D’El Rei. Follow this road for 9 kms until you reach the village of Serra D’El Rei. Turn right in the centre. There is a large blue panel indicating Praia D’El Rey. Follow this road for 1.5kms and take a right turn signed Praia D’El Rey. Follow this road for 4kms, which will bring you to the resort main entrance. From Cascais: As you leave Cascais on the A5 Motorway towards Lisbon after about 15kms you will see the blue motorway signs indicating the A9 CREL to Norte. Follow this. Carry on through two tunnels. After the second tunnel take the exit at the bottom of the hill signed A8 Loures/Leiria. Follow from * above. Toll Booths. At the first you must stop (right hand lane) and pick up a ticket. At the second you must stop (right hand lane) and pay in cash (No Credit Cards) If you do not stop, you will be fined.
