Parc highlights

  • Eurocamp Active - walking notes and downloadable routes available & summer skiing nearby

  • Take a hike in the forests surrounding the parc

The wine region isn’t the only little-known thing about Switzerland. Bella Tola parc is our only Swiss parc with a pool. Need more reasons to give this parc a try? How about the fact it’s a family-run parc that you’ll find on a wooded hillside ringed by the towering mountains of the Valais region? This steep site has two outdoor pools, one of which is especially for toddlers, as well as a Jacuzzi for you to relax in. When splash time is over, let the kids loose at the playground or during activities run by the parc. If you fancy heading away from the parc, you’ll find a great choice of sports like riding, fishing, golf and cycling - you can in fact enjoy free cycle hire for up to 4 hours, available from the nearby train station. Why not follow the nature trail and forest next to the parc and discover a range of 7 km to 10 km walks? You’ll also find that you’re in the midst of Switzerland’s little-known wine region here. Then, when you’ve worked up an appetite, visit the friendly, award-winning, family-run restaurant.

    Summer Ski

This campsite is situated approximately 50km from two excellent summer ski resorts in Switzerland, Zermatt and Saas Fee.

Zermatt’s Theodul glacier offers 21km of piste to ski during the summer months, with national alpine teams enjoying the fantastic skiing on offer. There is also a newly renovated 990m2 large glacial palace and summer freestyle park with a thrilling ice slide.

As well as summer skiing, there are plenty of other unique outdoor activities to experience making a trip to Zermatt well worthwhile. A must for those with a good head for heights is a visit to the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, which offers the highest 360 degree panoramic viewing platform in Europe providing breath-taking views you will never forget.

Lower down, there are 400km of marked hiking tracks and trails to explore, plus 6 mountain bike routes covering 100km. For something a bit more daring, there are dirt scooters to hire which offer an exciting way to speed back down to the valley.

    How to get there

Zermatt is 50km from Camping Bella Tola and is a car-free resort. Private traffic is only permitted up to Täsch (5 km before Zermatt), and the road between Täsch and Zermatt is closed to private transport.

Various car parks (2,900 spaces; 2,100 of them in the Matterhorn Terminal Täsch) and uncovered parking spaces (900 spaces) are available in Täsch. Some of the multi-storey car parks also have outside parking spaces, and offer a taxi service to and from Zermatt.

The Matterhorn Gotthard Railway has shuttle trains which run between Täsch and Zermatt every 20 minutes. A 12 minute train journey takes you to the Bahnhofplatz in Zermatt – at the heart of the Matterhorn village.

To get to the ski lifts from the station at Bahnhofplatz you can either walk or take public transport. There are 2 bus lines, a green and a red, which circle Zermatt. The green line is the Skibus which runs every 8 minutes between the train station and the bottom ski lift stations. Or take an electric taxi ride from the train station which costs around 20CHF.

From the bottom lift stations there are 3 lifts to get to the summer ski area -2 Matterhorn Express gondolas followed by 1 cable car from Trockener Steg to the Matterhorn glacier paradise.

Please note: The estimated total journey time from Camping Bella Tola to the top of the glacier, including time to park, obtain train tickets, take train, ski hire and gondola ride, is around 3-4 hours. A very early start is definitely required to benefit from the best conditions in the morning.

The cableways in Saas-Fee are the gateway to stunning mountain scenery and a whole world of fun! The Allalin glacier offers ideal summer skiing and snowboarding conditions, with an altitude of 3600mand 20kmof slopes, including smooth pistes for carvers, mogul pistes for experts and flat pistes for beginners. This is truly a summer skiing hotspot, and it’s not unusual to see the Swiss and other international teams here for their summer training sessions. There is also a freestyle park suitable for all abilities.

Post summer skiing there is plenty of action for those who love the great outdoors. Why not try out some aerial trekking with high ropes and zip wires in the Adventure Forest, or there’s fun for all ages at the Feeblitz toboggan run ,where the steepest toboggan run in the Alps hurtle you back down the valley at speeds of up to 40kph!

The Gorge Alpine Via Ferrata is open all year round and is a must for thrill-seekers. Crossing the impressive Fee Gorge is definitely not for the faint hearted, using a combination of zip-lines, hanging suspension bridges, ladders and via ferrata! Back on land, the action continues with scooter biking, offering a novel and exciting way to reach the valley down below.

Bella Tola campsite is in the Pfyn-Finges Naturepark, in the Swiss region that is also home to the stunning Matterhorn. Yet despite the high peaks all around you, walking is easy here, thanks to a fantastic network of 'Wanderwegs' or footpaths. The scenery is extremely diverse too, with vineyards, alpine pastures, snow-capped peaks and the largest glaciers in Switzerland; not to mention several regional and national nature parks for you to explore. This area is also ideal for nature and bird lovers, with flower filled meadows from mid May to late June, echoing with the call of marmots as they emerge from their burrows. It’s also possible to spot ibexes and chamois here, as well as the ubiquitous dairy cows and goats with their trademark bells.

We had a lovely holiday the area was beautiful, the campsite in a great location & the weather was good too.

We travelled here from the French rivieria, the drive was beautiful! Upon our arrival in Sustan we drove up a steep hill (around 2km's) to get to this Parc and immediately felt cut off. We were told of another way in but the hill is on the opposite side of town in Sustan and just as steep! This was not mentioned in the brochure or online ( just saying nearest town is 2km away) Sustan itself has a Co-op, bar and petrol garage, the nearest town with 'life' is Luek, around 1.5 km's from Sustan and uphill! so a car is a MUST! Leuk is a lovely old village and worth a visit, but nothing is within walking distance of this parc, only a couple of woodland walks. Our rep met us promptly and made us welcome, showed us to our van and explained how to work everything. We ordered linen, but had to ask for bath mats and rep wasnt aware they were provided (as per booking) She gave us some clean towels that had been left from previous guests to use for our stay. We chatted to her about feeling cut off and she gave us some info on what to do around the area, which made us feel better! Our caravan was clean, comfortable and well equipped.
There was free internet but this was restricted to the bar/reception areas, we tried other areas just outside of this and lost connection. We feel internet is a must on this type of parc, as travel is the only way of getting around, we needed internet to search areas, and postcodes for our satnav for exploring, and had to park up next to reception to get connection. We would much rather of paid a fee for internet to browse at our leisure.
The first member of staff we met on the parc was a gent on reception that exchanged our money for us, he was a lovely courtious man. But thats as far as it went! we used the shop to order bread on most days, no chatting required lol! we decided to have a drink and meal on our last night here and on arrival in the bar there was one other couple sitting having a drink and five staff sitting around chatting on another table, we ordered our drink but felt uncomfortable, as if we shouldnt have been there, so we drank up and left and cooked back at our caravan.
Switzerland is stunning! the areas around sustan are all beautiful and very picturesque, so glad we came! The highlight was spending the day exploring the alps at Fiesch getting cablecars to the summit and standing next to a glacier! the views the whole day were awesome, something we will remember! and pubs with views on route just fab! also taking a ski lift up for the views,! The whole day fee was 80 euros (around £55,) well worth it!
Also the Dixsence Dam, just huge! the biggest gravity dam in the world, not to much cost either! Spent an afternoon at Leukabad Natural Thermal baths, so relaxing. The locals in Switzerland are quite mixed, French Swiss and German spoken, but all just as friendly, would definately return to Switzerland, so much more to see just not to stay here!
The pool at the parc was lovely, set amongst the wonderful views, the best part of the parc!

Bella Tolla has attractive views and is well located in the generally sunnier part of Switzerland close to interesting historical sites and towns in the valley and mountains nearby and well placed for day trips including to Italy and France.

The proximity to the Goppenstein/Kandersteg car train ( a short but highly effective and inexpensive way of crossing to the Central/Northern parts of Switzerland and saving considerable time and fuel cost) is an important feature of this site's location.

Had a great time here. We think this was because Tony and Carol, the reps, were so friendly, helpful and informative. They suggested places to go etc.

Lovely small site in a beautiful setting. Shop is only open for 2 hours each morning and children's club is a very loose arrangement. Reps very friendly.

Everthing made a perfect holiday from the parc, location, facilities and accommodation to the couriers. Although only a 2 bed, the accommation was sufficient for 2 adults and 3 children with fantastic views of the surrounding mountains. The location was perfect to visit most of the Valais (not all as we ran out of time!), with a day trip to Italy sandwiched in between. The couriers were fantastic, recommending places to visit based on what we wanted to see, rather than just sending us to the main attractions. We would definately visit again and are already planning a similar holiday next year! Thanks Eurocamp.
