Venice Video

Venice is situated in northern Italy and is the capital of Veneto. This wonderfully cultural city is considered by name to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The buildings in Venice are uniquely constructed on wood piles, which rise them above the high waters, created by tides from the Adriatic.

The city itself is built upon 117 small islands, and it is this fact which is responsible for its beautiful canal systems, which are connected with a staggering 409 bridges, only 3 of which actually cross the main canal itself. Whilst the city may not be that large (284 miles) it is home to a large number of Venician restaurants and hotels.

Discovering Venice is an absolute must and you can find yourself wandering the mysterious streets and alleyways, which often lead to undiscovered quaint back streets and hidden surprises. It certainly is the sort of place you could lose yourself for hours on end, amid the culture and beauty of this magnificent city.

When in Venice, the best way to travel is on foot or by Vaporetto (water bus), where you can pick up a day-pass for a reasonable price. However, if you are looking to really get into the swing of Venice, then a traditional Gondola ride is a must. Should you be just looking to cross the Grand Canal, then at strategic points along the way, you will be able to cross on the Traghetto (commuter gondola), which is a little less expensive than the traditional gondola ride, and of course, you do not get the classic striped shirt and "O Sole Mio"!

You cannot talk about the city of Venice without mentioning its romantic side. It has to be simply one of the most romantic cities for love-struck holidaymakers. An evening outdoors, looking up at the full moon, whilst admiring the cityscape and rippled reflections on the water and you can see why it is so popular.
