Sightseeing

Across the Bay of Biscay is the walled town of Concarneau, home to one of France's largest fishing ports. Alternatively there's Bénodet, with its popular yachting and watersports centre, as well as cafés and restaurants. For family fun there's Aquarive at Quimper, 16km away. Close to the parc however, is an excellent sandy beach, just a stroll away.

To entertain the teens there is Aquarive, a large indoor swimming pool with a wave machine and a 60 metre slide. For the younger ones Aquarive has a separate pool and slide with large soft toys and inflatables.

Just a short stroll from the campsite is a beautiful sandy beach for plenty of family fun and no travelling.

Parc de Kersimonou

You can liven things up with the local paintballing and mini golf facilities at Parc de Kersimonou (open by appointment all year round). Whilst in the area, the heart of Concarneau bay, Fouesnant is a must see. The town is known for its lace and cider production.

For an animal encounter Parc Animalieur in Quinquis is perfect. Young children will love the educational farm and petting area. At Odet Loisirs’ (Elliant), just over 20 km away, the family can burn off some steam on giant swings and trampolines, water slides and pedalos.

Quimper has something to suit all tastes: markets (every morning), museums such as the Musée departmental Breton housed in the Episcopal palace, lots of places to shop and eat in the Vieux Quimper, and Gothic buildings like the Cathedral of Saint-Corentin.

Concarneau is a vibrant tourist centre with people attracted to the town’s four beaches and the ‘Ville-Close’, a small citadel on a rocky islet. There is a tour around the town on a little train or if you want to explore the surrounding areas then regular boat trips to Glenan and the Belle Ille Islands depart from here.

Obelix Trophy, Benodet

The prestigious competition for the Obelix Trophy started in 1971 and has since become an important event in the yachting calendar. Every year around 220 boats take to the waters to race on the waters around Bénodet.

With gruelling routes covering some of France's most beautifully scenic regions, the Tour de France is an iconic cycle race, attracting huge crowds along the route. The Grand Départ of 2018 takes place on the 7th July starting on the Island of Noirmoutier. The early stages of the race go through the Vendée and Brittany regions. As usual there are exciting mountains stages in the French Alps and the Pyrenees.The races finishes in Paris on the 29th July.

Celebrate the fertile apple orchards with music and dancing in Fouesnant. There are fireworks and traditional Breton costumes galore, with a costume contest on Saturday afternoon, a Grand Parade on Sunday morning and a torchlight procession on Sunday evening. 2018 dates are to be confirmed.

Quimper’s citizens celebrate their Welsh and Cornish ancestry in July with a joyous Celtic shindig with great entertainment, competitions and dances. A real highlight is the Great Sunday Parade where everyone dresses in traditional Breton costume. Hugely popular, the festival draws artists of international acclaim and around 250,000 visitors!

Pont-Aven is particularly beautiful during this festival when the yellow flower of Brittany, gorse, is celebrated along with the Breton culture on the first Sunday in August. This is a particularly traditional festival; there are age-old dances, parades, music and feasting.

Off Parc Activities

Beg-Meil lies within Fouesnant which is very popular with tourists because of the idyllic Cap Coz and 15 km of coastline, so there is no need to travel far. But if you do wish to explore then Benodet is under 10 km and very popular for modern shops and restaurants, as well as heritage sites and watersports. Bénodet is also a thriving resort for watersports and is particularly popular for yacthing.
