You're just half an hour's drive or train ride away from the wonderful city of Barcelona to the north, and the excellent theme park Port Aventura to the south, which can also be reached by public transport. About 30km away is Aqualeon, the only combined water and safari park in Europe. Sitges is a lively resort situated just 9km from the parc, renowned for its bars, restaurants and nightlife. Slightly further afield, sample the shops and restaurants in medieval Tarragona, and the great beach resorts of Salou and Cambrils.

Barcelona with it's famous architecture, stunning churches and cathedrals, parks and museums is easily accessible. There is regular coach service to the city and airport (via Sitges) which leaves from the parc entrance throughout the day, all year round.

Meet the penguins face to face and discover the mysterious world of sharks in the 80m underwater tunnel at Barcelona’s aquarium. There are more than 325 species on show with dolphin shows, play area, mini train and pony rides.



Do visit the popular resort of Sitges which is renowned for its beaches - there are 17 of them in total! A lovely palm fringed promenade runs right along the beach front. An hourly / half hourly coach runs from the parc entrance to Sitges and Barcelona, taking 15 minutes to Sitges town centre.

Just 60km away is the excellent PortAventura - a vast theme park filled with roller coasters and great entertainment for the whole family. With a large aquapark, 5 themed areas and even three golf courses there is something here for everyone.

This region is dying to share its history and culture with museums everywhere: Can Llopis Romantic museum (Sitges) shows visitors life in the 18th century, Cau Ferrat Museum is the preserved house of the painter Santiago Rusiñol and then of course, there's the famous Picasso Museum.

There's animals, water rides, shows and family games all rolled into one at Aqualeon - the only water and safari park combined in Europe. Whizz down the Kamikaze slide or whirl around the Black Hole before hopping on the safari bus to see the elephants and tigers or stopping off at the mini zoo to peep at the meerkats.

La Merced Festival

La Merced Festival

Held in honour of Mare de Deu de la Merce, the Patron Saint of Barcelona, La Merced Festival is the main festival of the city. The main events take place on September 24 but festivities last over five days, with up to 500 different activities. Some of the most famous events are the Castellers (human towers) in the Gothic Quarter and the Correfoc (procession of fire breathing dragons) on the Via Laietana as well as the unmissable Parade of Giants.

All over Catalonia streets and squares are filled with stalls of books and flowers and people in fine spirits. Friends and loved ones exchange gifts (traditionally books) to celebrate the Patron Saint of Catalonia. Books and flower stalls are set up along the streets of Barcelona, with many well know artists signing copies of their books.
