NEW to Eurocamp for 2018!

Live out your wild-west fantasies on this parc with a terrific riding school attached

Like to live your life on the open range? Well, we can’t promise the prairies of Nebraska, but Le Village Western really does have more than a touch of the wild, wild west about it. Imagine your favourite Western, then take away the bad guys and just add lots of opportunities to saddle up and have some fun and you’re on your way. So, take a closer look around this perfectly realized vision of a frontier town and you’ll see there’s more to Western Village than the saloon, the Western riding school and the pony club (although, for horse-loving kids, it doesn’t get better than this). There’s a terrific new inside-outside pool complex, with plenty of places to dry off in the warm Gironde sunshine. As you’d expect, there’s a definite Tex-Mex flavor to the onsite restaurant – but there’s pizza too! Active types will love the opportunity to try climbing, mountain biking or hiking trails direct from the parc. Less active? That’s fine – there’s a wide expanse of beach nearby, and the parc’s generous pitches allow for days slumbering on your decking too.

Quiet, relaxing and a fantastic location for the lake beach and exploring. The cycle tracks are gentle and shaded. The indoor pool is great for some morning lengths.

Great relaxing friendly place quiet and peaceful.
The Staff at the restaurant were lovely and helpful, there was nothing I could fault .

The Horse riding was good value for money, swimming pool area was good but for the size of the campsite could have been bigger sun loungers (No problems at all no early morning towels on chairs or other) Black tarmac really they should change the heat mid-day August at 43c Just got hot and burnt your feet.

Bordeaux was Just over an hour drive away parking was pretty straight forward.

Cap33 sports at Hourtin Port / Lacanau very good value / Beach Hourtin Plage Excellent if a Surfer the kids loved it.

Beautiful region of France and the camp specifically is in a great location between Hourtin town and Hourtin Port on the lake.
The camp is authentic in giving that Wild West theme.
The new pool area was good but for the size of the campsite could have been bigger as it quickly got crowded and I can’t understand the use of black tarmac surrounding the pool that became extremely hot under feet in the sun. Plus there was not enough sun loungers which meant sitting on the hot tarmac.

However only 10 minutes walk to the port you have the lake beach which has a safe swimming area with life guards and is golden sand for as long as the eye can see. Along with an abundance of water sports activities.

The horse riding provided in the camp, western style, is a great part of the attraction however you need to speak French for any lessons and treks.

This brings me on to a notice to English visitors, if you are new to visiting France and don’t speak French or good French then you will find it hard here as this camp and the Hourtin area is a holiday destination for the French so a lot of the camp staff and restaurant (menues in French only)/ shop / markets workers in the area don’t speak much English as their biggest tourists are the French.

One member of the campsite entertainment staff ‘Marie’ went out of her way to speak English and explain after the French was spoken and I hope Village Western see this review and pass this on to her. The entertainment was activity based on Wild West. Making a dream catcher; working with leather; knife and hatchet throwing (adults only) so a lot of explanations / instructions were given.
Night entertainment was line dancing twice a week (instructions in French but you pick it up), a disco once a week and open air cinema the rest.
On camp quiet time from 11:30pm so no night life. No night life in Hourtin or Hourtin Port either.

Although the campsite does have WiFi ability (around the saloon only) it is poor and difficult to connect. If you have teenage children this will cause issue if they want to stay connected with their social media world!

Bordeaux is an hour and twenty minutes drive away and we’ll work visiting, steeped in history (as old as London’s) and would recomend the bus tour.
Visiting on a Sunday is best if you want quieter less bustle visit. Also the Gironde region is the region of red wine and the Medoc is full of wine producing Chateaus which you can visit and have individual tours and tastings.

The Eurocamp reps - Elaine and Gareth were very attentative, helpful and friendly and real asset to Eurocamp.

Overall we loved the the Village Western camp and all that it offered. We loved the area in particular Hourtin and the Gironde Medoc region. The fact that English was not easily spoken or understood made us want to improve our French to the point we will be taking tuition before we return next year. Yes we will be be returning as we didn’t have enough time to explore and experience all that this area has to offer. The surrounding of Lake Hourtin - Carcans will be a regular holiday destination for us in the future.
