The biggest fairground in France (with more than 80 attractions) is only 1km away. Fantastic roller coasters and other white knuckle rides like the Adrenalyn and Inversion 360 provide plenty of thrills, but there are loads of other attractions for all ages. Firework evenings are held on some Friday nights. Indoor Europark is a huge indoor play area for children with dozens of attractions.
Just a slip and a slide away (10km to be exact) you will find Aqualand in the modern resort of Cap d'Agde. The water park has lots of great slides and pools to suit all ages. Agd' Aventure is another great local attraction - a forest adventure trail with amazing views over the sea.
Cap d'Agde Aquarium will let you into some of the secrets of the seas... You can get an amazing look at sharks and turtles at feeding time and there are over 30 tanks with fish from all over the world.
Set above the River Orb, this is the capital of the Languedoc Wine industry. It's also home to the biggest and best festival in the South of France - the Feria de Béziers - held for 5 days every August.
Visit the famous indoor market Les Halles de Narbonne (open daily from 6am to 1pm) and discover the very best of the local produce. Don't miss the monumental former palace of the Archbishops and the imposing Saint-Pasteur Cathedral.
A charming town bisected by canals bringing the sea right into the centre. Many locals have their own little boats to take them shopping! Completing the attraction are over 12km of wonderful beaches.
Events in the Region
There are lots of ‘Grandes Spectacles’ in Valras Plage during the summer months. White dress is mandatory for the three day festival of Saint Pierre, a traditional festival of the fishermen and the sea. Enjoy the street processions, dragon boat challenge, dancing and the fireworks on the jetty. On the Sunday evening a lantern procession returns the statue of Saint Pierre to the church. 2020 dates to be confirmed.
Every year in June, Sérignan holds the ‘Fêtes du Partage’, where all generations are brought together in a spirit of joy to celebrate living together. Everyone is immersed in the Occitan culture with music, theatre and dancing. The festival culminates in a fireworks display, with the sky illuminated in the colours of the Occitan and Catalonia - red and yellow. 2020 date to be confirmed.
Gastronomic, musical, and sporting... there are lots of events in and around Marseillan to enjoy. For example, there is the ‘Fiest’a Sete’ where there is free Creole and Chilean music and the ‘Fete de l’Huitre’ (oysters), where there is wine, dancing, amazing views, and of course, oysters. 2020 dates to be confirmed.
16th August sees the feast of St Roch, the patron saint of Sérignan. There is a procession after mass, where the statue of St Roch tours the city, followed by a parade of riders, horse-drawn carriages, adults and children. On this feast day the inhabitants bless their horses, co-workers, winemakers, farmers and pets.
