The D-Day landing beaches are a must-see, and are very easily reached from Houlgate. There are many WWII museums in easy reach too, one of which houses the Bayeux Tapestry, in Bayeux. The port town of Caen is also close by, as well as the fashionable resort of Deauville, perfect for shopping and eating out. You do not have to travel far to see one of France’s most famous historic artefacts. The Bayeux tapestry is about an hour’s drive away, which is well worth it to see this extraordinary depiction of history. Another must-see historic attraction are the D-Day landing beaches, just a short drive from Houlgate.

If you fancy a day at the beach then the lovely seaside town of Houlgate is nearby, or the sophisticated resort of Deauville, which has a lovely yachting marina and casino. Also within driving distance is Deauville’s less formal and expensive twin town, Trouville. It has golden sands and lots of seaside concessions.




Caen is a very cosmopolitan town which has lots of sightseeing opportunities. It is known for its historical buildings built during the reign of William the Conqueror.
