Days Out

Grenoble cable car

Le Belledonne is surrounded by spectacular alpine scenery. It is particularly beautiful in Grenoble, which is a beautiful little city of ornate squares and landscaped gardens. A fantastic way to take in the views is by taking a trip on the city's cable cars, otherwise known as 'The Bubbles'.

Chartreuse distillery

Charteuse Distillery

Ready for a road trip? A reasonable drive away (approximately 1 hour) in Voiron is the Charteuse Distillery, the longest liqueur distillery in the world and the distillery of the Chartreuse monks. Uncover the mysteries behind the recipe from the secret manuscript. Tours are free and you receive a complimentary tasting. It is closed from 11.30 am until 2pm whilst the monks taste ‘the brew’.

Mining Museum

Chemin de Fer de la Mure

Taking a trip on the Chemin de Fer de la Mure, the tourist railway, is a great way to see the area. The line was previously used to bring coal to Grenoble and you can still visit the line inside the mine itself. To find out more about mining in the area visit the modern museum, ‘La Mine Image’. You will discover how anthracite is formed, how mines are explored and the harsh life of the men who worked down there.
