Tour de France

Tour de France

With gruelling routes covering some of France's most beautifully scenic regions, the Tour de France is an iconic cycle race, attracting huge crowds along the route. The Grand Départ of 2018 takes place on the 7th July starting on the Island of Noirmoutier. The early stages of the race go through the Vendée and Brittany regions. As usual there are exciting mountains stages in the French Alps and the Pyrenees.The races finishes in Paris on the 29th July.

For two Thursdays in both July and August, Challans goes back in time. From dawn till dusk the town celebrates ‘the good old days’, starting with a poultry, butter, egg, and pig fair. There are parades and lots of free activities, but its best to get a timetable of events from the tourist information office so you don’t miss anything. On Friday 20th & 27th July and 10th & 17th August there is a free outdoor folk evening on the Rue des Plantes.

Off Parc Activities

In the area there are lots of fun activities that are a great ways to see the Vendée. You can explore the beautiful marshlands of the area by hiring a canoe approximately 8 km away at Sallertaine. But if you would prefer to stay on dry land than why not try ‘Velo Rail’? ‘Velo Rail’ provides special push pedal cars so you can discover the area along 10 km of old railway line.

For a day of cycling or walking with a difference then visit Ile d’Yeu. There are wild and wonderful moors, beautiful scenery and gorgeous beaches that will make your trip memorable. If you can squeeze in a visit to the ‘Vieux Château, then your day is guaranteed to be unforgettable. Ferries from Fromentine or St Gilles Croix-de-Vie will take you to the island.
