Spectacular night-time son-et-lumiere show, re-telling the history of the Vendee, usually taking place on Friday & Saturday nights throughout the summer from around 10.30pm. Tickets often sell out so it is a good idea to book the show well in advance.

With gruelling routes covering some of France's most beautifully scenic regions, the Tour de France is an iconic cycle race, attracting huge crowds along the route. The Grand Départ of 2018 takes place on the 7th July starting on the Island of Noirmoutier. The early stages of the race go through the Vendée and Brittany regions. As usual there are exciting mountains stages in the French Alps and the Pyrenees.The races finishes in Paris on the 29th July.
For two Thursdays in both July and August, Challans goes back in time. From dawn till dusk the town celebrates ‘the good old days’, starting with a poultry, butter, egg, and pig fair. There are parades and lots of free activities, but its best to get a timetable of events from the tourist information office so you don’t miss anything. On Friday 20th & 27th July and 10th & 17th August there is a free outdoor folk evening on the Rue des Plantes.
The crowds gather in Oleron for some of the best seafood you will ever taste. It doesn't get fresher than picking an oyster from a pontoon yourself. Whizz round the harbor on a boat ride and wave to the crowds devouring the seafood. The night ends with a bang as the night sky is lit with fireworks.
