As a family we are interested in war history so Normandy was a great destination. There are lots of museums and also just stuff to see that dates back to the German occupation of France during WW2. Would recommend Juno Beach museum at Courseulle sur Mer, Arromanche to see Mulberry Harbours and Pegasus Bridge museum. There was lots going on when we were there at the beginning of June as 6th is anniversary of D Day landings. Next year will be extra good as 2019 is 75th anniversary. Also at Bayeux there is another museum and the tapestry which is well worth a visit. Houlgate is a lovely town with lots of shops, cafes and restaurants and a nice beach. The only downside is unreliable weather! It's much like England sadly.

We didn't visit many places in this trip. Highgate is a quiet old fashioned place with little life other than the beach. We did find an excellent restaurant. Caen was magnificent and we would return there.
