Local area
Northern Sardinia is just magical. If you’re the kind of family who ventures beyond the beach, this is your kind of place. Sorso itself is a working agricultural town surrounded by vineyards and olive groves – the Romangia region is renowned for Vermentino wines and exceptional olive oil. The town centre (5.3km away) has traditional shops, cafés, and a genuine Italian atmosphere untouched by mass tourism. It’s wonderfully real.
The Marina di Sorso coastline is backed by the protected Platamona pine forest and lagoon, creating a unique ecosystem perfect for gentle nature walks and birdwatching. The beach itself runs for 15 kilometres, offering sheltered family-friendly sections as well as windswept stretches popular with windsurfers and kitesurfers. On clear mornings, the island of Asinara seems close enough to touch, its wild coastline visible across the blue water. Porto Torres, the major port city, sits nearby (12km), offering connections to mainland Italy and a fascinating archaeological heritage including impressive Roman ruins.
